Color Guard is a section of Marching Band that interprets the music played by the marching band or drum corps via synchronized dance of flags, sabres, rifles, and other relevant props. Students learn marching skills, marching to music, handling of equipment, and creating and teaching routines. Leadership and group cooperation are emphasized. Performance includes all parades and football field events with Marching Band, as well as separate competitive performance with other color guard groups. Students enrolled in this semester/year course are eligible for an exemption of the Physical Education graduation requirement. The “PE Exemption Application” form can be downloaded from our Forms & Documents page. For further information, please visit the Guidance Office.

Winter Guard Competitions
Competitions are mandatory and graded. Students are required to be at every competition. Failure to do so will result in a withdrawal from the class.

Please note that the budget costs to implement Winter Guard have been calculated to about $135 per student, which is the contribution amount requested. This does not include the cost for the costume.
