ALL PROGRAMS

Marching Band

Encompasses drum major, color guard, brass and wind instrumentalists, front percussion, and battery. Marching Band is the most visible component of the Instrumental Music Program at Laguna Hills High School.

Color Guard

A section of Marching Band that interprets the music played by the marching band or drum corps via synchronized dance of flags, sabres, rifles, and other relevant props

Drumline

Also known as the "Battery" or "Batterie," this section consists of snare drums, tenor drums, bass drums, and cymbals. The pit, also called the front ensemble, includes instruments such as marimbas, vibraphones, bells, synthesizers, and auxiliary percussion.

Symphonic Band

Comprised of accomplished musicians who play moderate to difficult music that requires considerable skill. Rehearsals stress preparation of concert music, fundamentals of proper wind and percussion technique, music reading, music history, and music theory.

Wind Ensemble

An elite group of wind and percussion players that perform the most advanced and challenging compositions.

Jazz Band

Comprises musicians who wish to gain experience in musical idioms based on the “Jazz Tradition.” These include Early Jazz, Swing, Bebop, Modal Jazz, Blues, Fusion, and Funk. The Jazz Ensemble is an elite group which performs at concerts and competitive festivals.

Orchestra

Includes musicians who play the violin, viola, cello, string bass, piano, and harp. Emphasis throughout the year is preparation and performance of the finest orchestral literature.

Winter Guard

Winter Guard is a section of Marching Band that interprets the music played by the marching band or drum corps via synchronized dance of flags, sabres, rifles, and other relevant props.
